AI ad copy generator comparison: what to actually check

A buyer's checklist for comparing AI ad copy tools — brand-voice fidelity, variant count, editing control and what happens after the copy exists.

7 min read

Most AI ad copy tools demo well. They all produce a headline. The differences show up in week three, not in the first five minutes.

Check what it knows about you before you type

Ask whether the tool reads your site, or whether you re-describe your business in every prompt. That single difference decides whether the voice holds across a month of output.

Count the variants

One answer forces you to judge in isolation. A set lets you compare. Caplyn returns 9 variants per brief for exactly this reason.

Test brand voice with your least generic page

  • Feed it a page with an unusual product name and an opinionated tone.
  • Read the output out loud. Generic tools flatten anything specific.
  • Check whether it kept your words or replaced them with category words.

Look at editing and approval, not just generation

You will edit. Ask how easy the edit is, whether the tool learns from it, and whether someone else — a client, a manager — can approve without an account.

Ask what happens after the copy exists

Copy that lives in a chat window still needs a scheduling step. A built-in calendar with Facebook and Instagram scheduling removes a tool from the chain.

Compare on price shape, not just price

Credits that roll over behave very differently from a monthly allowance that resets. TODO (team): keep this section free of competitor pricing unless someone verifies it on the day of publishing.

Try it on your own site
